What makes Avalanche different?
Avalanche is an independent Layer-1 built by Ava Labs, not an Ethereum rollup. Its consensus protocol finalizes transactions in under a second, with no confirmations to wait out, and its EVM-compatible C-Chain is where the network's tokens, DeFi, and NFTs live.
It is also a platform for many chains. Beyond the C-Chain, teams launch their own sovereign networks, called Avalanche L1s (formerly subnets), with their own rules and gas tokens, connected through Avalanche's interchain messaging. Gaming studios and institutions use this model heavily.
Fees on the C-Chain are paid in AVAX, and the Avalanche9000 upgrade cut the base fee sharply — a typical transaction now costs about a cent. Every fee is burned, tying network usage to AVAX supply.
