What makes Linea different?

Linea is a zero-knowledge rollup built by Consensys, the company behind MetaMask and Infura. It proves every batch of transactions with validity proofs and settles them to Ethereum, so it inherits Ethereum's security — and its zkEVM is fully EVM-equivalent, meaning Ethereum contracts and tooling work unchanged.

Gas on Linea is paid in ETH, not a separate token. The network is deliberately built to reinforce Ethereum: a share of net ETH fees is burned, and the rest is used to buy and burn LINEA, the network's own token launched in September 2025 to reward usage. It doesn't pay for gas.

That alignment, plus distribution through MetaMask's tens of millions of users, has made Linea one of the more active zkEVM L2s for DeFi and consumer apps, with bridged ETH put to work through native staking yield.
