What makes zkSync Era different?

Developed by Matter Labs, zkSync Era is a Layer-2 network that executes transactions outside the Ethereum blockchain and submits them back in batches.

Unlike optimistic rollups such as Optimism or Arbitrum, zkSync Era verifies correctness up front and produces validity proofs — zero-knowledge proofs. Once a block's proofs are submitted, its transactions are final, with no challenge period to wait out.

From a user's point of view it's made to feel like Ethereum mainnet. It's EVM-compatible, contracts are written in Solidity or Vyper, deployment is permissionless, and you pay gas in ETH — not much of it, because transactions are cheap.

zkSync's validity proofs mean withdrawals don't wait out a challenge window the way optimistic rollups do — every batch is proven correct on Ethereum mathematically.
